10 Jan MEMPHIS
Dec 15th, 2012 was a day of perfect fluffy snow and filled with tears as we let our beautiful Memphis go. He brought more joy to our life than we could have ever asked for. He was a patient, polite cat who was shy with strangers but amazingly loyal and dedicated to us. He had a glorious coat that would change from shimmering silver to elegant blue/grey depending on the light.
One of our nicknames for him was Monkey, due to his energy and big personality. He liked to flick stickers off his paws and to toss around toe separators. He would sit peacefully as his hair was petted into a temporary mohawk, then walk about handsomely. With a meow that sounded like hello, he would greet us at the door and he listened to Oldies music while gazing out the window when we were out.
During our last weeks with him, he enjoyed his favorite meals such as tuna, he could somehow hear a twist can opener from any room in the house and also roasted chicken that he could sniff out of the grocery bags.
He was an amazing soul, vocal and loving. Our hearts break a little bit over again each time we come home – he’s not there to greet us in person but we still feel his spirit.
While it was exceptionally difficult to let him go, we were honored to help him in his transition; we didn’t want him to suffer after he gave us so much. For the next part of his journey, he went with a comfy purple towel and a purple fabric bow with catnip in it.
He was our beautiful Memphis Raines, who chose us eleven and a half years ago. We miss him beyond words and will love him always.
